Give up everything to start over in her motherland
Five years ago, there was a Vietnamese-Swedish girl who left everything behind to return to Vietnam to find her lost family. Her touching story quickly caught the attention of the Vietnamese public and press at that time. Thanks to the help of thousands of strangers on the online community and Vietnamese press, she was able to meet her biological mother again. Denise Sandquist, a “global citizen” who chose to return to find her roots, has now become a female CEO of a technology startup, with the ambition of dominating the dating and friends app market in Vietnam.
Denise was born in Hanoi, Vietnam but was then adopted by a Swedish couple when she was just 3 weeks old. She spent most of her teenage years in this Scandinavian country. After graduating from the prestigious Stockholm University of Economics, Denise quickly joined Goldman Sachs – one of the world’s leading financial companies. After that, Denise also worked as an interpreter for the Swedish Embassy in Russia and worked in 7 different countries around the world. This has encouraged her to become fluent in 6 languages (including Vietnamese). Until one day, she decided to give up everything to return to Vietnam, carrying a great ambition in mind.

Giving up the management position to start a dating and friends app
Back in Vietnam, Denise took over a management position for a multinational corporation based here. It was the time working and interacting with the environment, the Vietnamese people helped Denise open up new perspectives and better understand the culture of her second homeland. She quickly realized a potential market to develop in Vietnam: online dating.
Catching the tastes and needs of users in search of true relationships, Denise her partner, also an Asian Swedish, worked together to develop a dating and friends app – Fika, an app that spread positive values as results of quality and safe relationships. This comes from the fact that Denise found her biological mother largely thanks to the support of the online community – from complete strangers who were touched with her story.
The warm support from community was the reason why Denise wanted to start her startup.
6 months, 400,000 downloads and the ambition to dominate the market
Fika has only been released for less than 6 months, but has quickly achieved more than 400,000 downloads, ranked 1st on the Google Play Store chart, and 4th in the lifestyle category on App Store. The response of the young community in Vietnam undoubtedly showcases the vision and aspirations of Denise and the Fika team in connecting and establishing genuine relationships.

Giving back to community
Besides spending time on her work and long-term business goals, Denise also spends a lot of time participating in community-oriented volunteer activities. In the future, this is also her top goal when working with the Fika team to spread positive values to Vietnamese people. Denise will spend a lot of time organizing entrepreneurship seminars, especially in the field of technology, and actively participate in volunteer work to contribute to connecting the community with practical actions. , just like the spirit she puts in Fika.
