Not only is Fika’s co-founder female, but the company also has a significant number of female employees from interns to managers in specific technical positions. This is unusual compared to other startups in the tech industry which is a field that is traditionally dominated by males. As a result, Fika understands the needs and psychology of women, helping to adjust the app’s features to suit female users as much as possible. This is in line with Fika’s core mission: To be a safe, healthy, and female-focused dating app.
Female-Friendly Interface Colors
Right down to the color Fika uses for its interface, the focus is on female users, in this case, the selection of Wonder Blue and Light Rose. The colors exude youthfulness, brightness, and extreme dynamism, just like the characteristics of a Fika user. These are the female role models of a new era: Confident and liberal, and still maintaining the inherent elegance and sophistication.
Eliminating Dating App Gender Stereotypes
Growing up in Sweden, and having lived in China, Thailand, and Vietnam for many years, Denise Sandquist found that the dating culture of people in Asia, and in Vietnam in particular, was somewhat different from in Western culture. When she recommended dating apps to her friends in Vietnam, their feedback was that the apps were not designed to suit their lifestyle and local culture. It can be challenging for many people to try online dating because of the stereotypes about using dating apps, especially with female users.
“Many women in Vietnam that I know are shy or afraid to turn on notifications when using dating apps,” says Denise.
“However, whether male or female, everyone has the right to look for and choose for themselves the right partner, so why should women be shy when using dating apps?”
Understanding these challenges, the young female CEO decided to co-found Fika with her best friend. One of Fika’s core values is empowering women – encouraging them to be more confident and proactive in pursuing romantic relationships without being afraid of prejudices.
Building a Healthy, Safe Dating Culture
Fika understands that one of the biggest reasons women in Vietnam are still hesitant to use dating apps is their fear of encountering scams or harassment. Because of that, at Fika, a profile verification is always done to ensure 100% of the users are real. No more fake photos, no more fake accounts. All Fika’s female users can rest assured they are experiencing a quality online dating environment.
In addition, through photo verification Fika also wants to spread the message to everyone, especially women, that instead of following double standards you can just be yourself, be confident and respectful!
With the vision of being a female-focused dating app, Fika has always tried to give female users the best experience when using the app. We want users to match and make genuine, lasting, and meaningful connections.
Ladies, tell Fika what you want so we can continue to grow and serve you better!
